New inventory arrives weekly. Want us to text you when we get a Payload Capacity 1,501-2,500 lbs?
Browse all trucksThis is the upper half-ton range. Some max-payload packages. A few light-duty 3/4-ton gas trucks sneak into the bottom of this bracket, but most of what you’ll see is properly configured half-tons.
If the door sticker says 1,501–2,500 lbs, that truck is built better than the average leather-loaded mall crawler. Still not a heavy-duty. Don’t confuse the two.
In Nebraska, 2016–2021 half-ton 4x4 crew cabs with this payload range and 80k–130k miles are listing between $23,000 and $35,000. Max Tow or Heavy-Duty Payload Package trucks push higher, especially clean ones in Omaha suburbs.
The yellow door sticker is the truth. Not the brochure. Not the salesman’s memory.
Ford F-150
With the Heavy-Duty Payload Package, some F-150s hit 2,000–2,500 lbs payload. Most regular XLT 4x4 crew cabs sit around 1,600–1,900 lbs.

Cons:
In 2023 I had a 2018 F-150 XL Heavy-Duty Payload Package in Fremont. Door sticker read 2,312 lbs. Vinyl seats. 3.73 gears. It sold fast to a small contractor hauling tile and thinset daily. Same year Lariat next to it? 1,642 lbs. Leather and sunroof cost capacity.
That’s the trade. Comfort eats payload.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500
GMC Sierra 1500
Most standard crew cab 4x4 models land 1,600–1,900 lbs. Specific work trims with fewer options can break 2,000 lbs.
Pros:
Cons:
I appraised a 2017 Silverado 1500 WT in Grand Island. 2,048 lbs payload on the sticker. Contractor used it to haul drywall and tools daily. Rear springs were holding up fine at 120k miles. Same year High Country we had? 1,588 lbs. Different truck once you check the numbers.
Ram 1500
Payload varies heavily depending on suspension and trim.
Most crew cab 4x4 models land 1,500–1,800 lbs. Some Tradesman trims with proper axle ratios can reach just over 2,000 lbs.
Pros:
Cons:
I had a 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn in Lincoln with 1,712 lbs payload. Owner wanted to haul a 1,600-lb pallet of pavers plus passengers. That math doesn’t work. With people in the cab, he was overloaded before leaving the yard.
Ram rides best empty. That comfort has a cost in capacity.
Toyota Tundra
Most crew cab 4x4 models from 2014–2021 land between 1,500 and 1,800 lbs. Some Double Cab models push closer to 2,000 lbs.
Pros:
Cons:
In 2022 I had a 2019 Tundra SR5 Double Cab with 1,980 lbs payload. It sold at $34,500 with 92k miles. A similar-mile Silverado listed at $29,000. Toyota name costs money.

Most buyers think all half-tons are the same. They’re not. Axle ratio, cab size, bed length, trim level. All change the sticker number.
A 2,000-lb rated truck sounds strong. Load four adults at 800 lbs combined. Add 300 lbs of tools. Now you’re down to 900 lbs before trailer tongue weight.
A 7,000-lb trailer with 10 percent tongue weight adds 700 lbs. Capacity disappears fast.
Running near 2,000 lbs often will wear rear shocks and tires faster. Expect suspension components to need attention around 100k–130k miles if used hard.
This range is practical. More capable than basic half-tons. Still affordable compared to 3/4-ton trucks. But it is not a substitute for a real heavy-duty if loads stay above 2,000 lbs daily.
Capacity is math. Not branding. Not trim badge. The door sticker decides.
